And we're back...

We are safely in Lui. The VSAT system is installed and working -- hence the blog post. Sumadhura hasn't dug a single well; by the time they started for Lesi, it was so muddy that they couldn't get through but got stuck for several days. They did deepen the well at the cathedral, but now they have gone off somewhere else.

Gordon and Vasco have given us our program of activities. Tomorrow we are off to Kediba to see the grinding mill, with a stop to check in at Wandi. Then it's a full schedule of conferences, visits, Moru lessons, and hospital work.

I don't know if we have ever had a team here this late in the rainy season. It is miserably hot and humid. The sweat is pouring off us; I'm not sure if it's possible to drink enough water to compensate.

We got to our compound (no trip to Mundri this time) and were greeted by Canon Kenneth Baringwa, the chairman of the hospital board, who has already begun consulting Jim about everything. Stephen Dokolo is here; his new position as secretary of the diocese will be interrupted one day a week so he can teach church history at the theological college in Mundri. It seems actually to have moved from Khartoum, but right now some IDPs are living in the buildings, so school hasn't started yet! Lillian and David are still in Kampala because of the difficulty of traveling to Lui. Ramsey is here building Lui Parish's new church, and we met the head of TEE for this area, Tricia, who is here visiting Morris and checking on the work.

Enough for now. Thanks for your prayers!

  6. I knew there was a reason I liked going in DECEMBER -- I would totally wimp out in the humidity. Thanks be to God that your trip was safe and uncomplicated; couldn't imagine how that little plane would land on a muddy airstrip in Mundri. You three looked so cheery enjoying coffee at Schiphol. Maybe we need a comparison shot now!?
Great news about the VSAT! Best, Nancy Kinney
