Today we went to church twice, to the English service at Fraser Cathedral at 9:00 and to the Moru service at 11:00. Both were Morning Prayer; Emily preached at 9 and Robert at 11. Church in Moruland is always fun because of the lively singing and drumming. At the Moru service, a young man and an old woman danced in front of the church, too. Maybe the most distinctive thing is the way the whole congregation processes out and forms a line down which each new person shakes hands with everyone before joining the line.
Archbishop Daniel stopped by with his entourage to see us in Lui before heading back to Juba this afternoon, and his departure from Mundri means that Bishop Bullen is home in Lui. We are very glad for that and look forward to spending some time with him this evening.
Tomorrow Emily and Joe are meeting with the youth of Lui, and Tuesday Emily, Tammy, Nancy, and I are meeting with the Mothers' Union. We'll attend Christmas Eve services at the cathedral and then spread out around the archdeaconries for Christmas.

Hi Debbie,
ReplyDeleteToday at the family service at St. Timothy's we prayed for you in Lui. Thanks for telling us about what church services are like in Sudan.
Love from the Ives family
A full, rich and interseting day, off to an interesting start!
ReplyDeleteWe were loading Fr. Stephen's luggage into the Coburn's car for his trip to the airport at about the time you posted todays message. He is on his way home at last. Emmanuel parish is praying for all of you!

HOORAY! I am delighted that Emily had an opportunity to preach there!
ReplyDeleteYes, I well remember how the whole congregation processes out and does something like our "passing of the peace." I loved those times!
It sounds like you all have much busy-ness ahead of you. I am grateful.
Today at Grace/Jefferson City, we all prayed for you. And we will continue to do so. And, of course, you are in my personal prayers.
I'm grateful for the reporting and storytelling you are doing, Debbie. Thank you!
Grace and peace to you all --
Lisa
